UNDERSTANDING 9-11 As An Effective Path To Peace was presented, livestreamed, and archived Wednesday 19 July 2017 in Staten Island, NY. Two leading NYC peace activists and 9/11 researchers, Les Jamieson and Sander Hicks, gave a talk and about the new opportunities for 9/11 justice advocacy that have emerged in this watershed year.  Understanding key aspects of 9/11 research combined with these new opportunities leads to a path to peace and deep change beyond what was previously available. Last July, the US Congress released the "28 Pages" which expose the money trail of 9/11. This was followed by a dramatic passage of JASTA, (the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act.) Jamieson, Honegger, Springmann, Clark 2017 “How New 9/11 Legal Actions Redefine Resistance”

The Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) was passed by the United States Congress.  JASTA authorizes federal courts to exercise personal jurisdiction over any foreign state's support for acts of international terrorism against a U.S. national or property. The bill passed the Senate with no opposition in May 2016 and, in September 2016, was unanimously passed by the House of Representatives.  On September 28, 2016, both houses of Congress passed the bill into law after overriding a veto from President Obama which had occurred five days earlier. This was the first and only presidential veto override of Obama's administration. The practical effect of the legislation was to allow the continuation of a longstanding civil lawsuit brought by families of victims of the September 11 attacks against Saudi Arabia for its government's alleged role in the attacks. The alleged Saudi role in September 11 attacks gained new attention after two former U.S. senators, co-chairmen of the Congressional Inquiry into the attacks, told CBS in April 2016 that the redacted pages of the Congressional Inquiry’s report refer to evidence of Saudi Arabia’s substantial involvement in the execution of the attacks, and calls renewed to have the redacted pages released. These were referred to as the “28 pages” and have now been made public --
